Zumanity - Cirque Du Soleil
Imagine the raw elements of a Cirque du Soleil show: the beauty, grace, artistry, and seemingly limitless physical abilities that each performer displays. Now combine that with costumes, choreography, music, and make-up that all scream...SEX! This is "the other side of Cirque du Soleil". This is Zumanity. Its creators have used the language of Cirque du Soleil to concoct an entirely unique performance in which audiences are invited to witness an exploration of sensuality, eroticism, and corporeal pleasures. Zumanity is an intimate show, not only due to its content, but also to the theater in which it is housed. Winding staircases, red velvet, and plush padded walls give this small venue a "turn of the century Paris" ambiance, resembling a cross between an opera house and a brothel. Performers appear in short vignettes, displaying unique physical talents, choreographed to the live music of the Zumanity orchestra. In each scene they portray highly stylized characters, each representing a manifestation of human sexuality. Two lovers balance in unfathomable positions inspired by the Kama Sutra. A woman writhes around two silk ropes suspended from the ceiling. Sisters clad in skipmy maid's costumes feed strawberries to audience members, and much, much more. From simple pleasures to S&M to homoeroticism, Zumanity covers all of its bases as far as sex is concerned. All shapes, sizes, and colors come together in this exploration of eroticism. It will captivate you in a way you never thought Cirque du Soleil could.
