Blue Man Group
Three bald and mute men painted in blue and dressed in black, a percussive repertoire, and some everyday items including breakfast cereal and crepe paper; these are not by any means the typical ingredients to a successful Las Vegas show. However they are the main components of "Blue Man Group", a show that has proven to be not only a success but a burgeoning phenomenon. Originally created in 1987 by Matt Goldman, Phil Stanton, and Chris Wink, "Blue Man Group" is essentially performance art in high gear. Each multifaceted "demonstration", involving music, miming, and creative movement, provides comedic and theatrical entertainment, all the while perpetuating a social commentary on todays technological age.
Throughout the show the Blue Man Group interacts amongst themselves and the audience using exuberant gesticulations and dramatic facial expressions. Playing out a series of mini skits they do everything from flinging paint onto a canvas to composing music with pipes and tubulums. Even a box of Cap'n Crunch cereal is used as an instrument!
The basis of the show is music, particularly percussion, and together with an accompanying band the Blue Men explore everything from simple rhythmic combinations to rock n' roll.
Blue Man Group highlights in each of its ecclectic acts a sense of discovery and an appreciation of simple innovation. Because of this the show brings out the childlike curiosity and playfullness in everyone who sees it. Not to mention, its the only show in town where you can witness a blue man make art with a mouthful of marshmallows.
